Kirsty Abbotts Makes Contest Debut With Hammonds Band

Hammonds Band are thrilled to announce that the internationally renowned cornet player Kirsty Abbots is making her contest debut on principal cornet at Brass in Concert. MD Morgan Griffiths said “I am looking forward to working with Kirsty over the next few months. Having such an accomplished performer join that band will only enhance the recent signings the band has made. As we return to normality after the long lockdown we have been able to rebuild and strengthen our team and Kirsty will be a key part of this process”. Kirsty will be playing with the band through the busy autumn and winter season and will lead the band at the British Open in January.

Kirsty takes over on the end chair following the decision of Phil Varley to step down from the role. “Phil has done a wonderful job as top man at Hammonds, notably winning the best soloist prize at the Yorkshire areas in 2017. We would like to thank him for everything that he has helped the band to achieve from the end chair and look forward to his continued contribution as bumper-up”.
