New faces, but a familiar name returns to Hammonds
The Hammonds Band is delighted to announce two new signings, on principal trombone Dr Tim Mossad and on tenor horn Joe Derrick.
Dr Tim Mossad has been playing trombone from the age of just 8 years old. Tim juggles his passion for music with his work for the NHS and a consultant in emergency medicine. Tim joins the band from Newstead band in the Midlands where he was also principal trombone.
Joe Derrick has a strong connection with Hammonds. He started playing cornet at the age of 7 and his first band was the then YBS Junior Band where his father Stuart conducted. At this time Stuart also played for the YBS Band (now Hammonds Band) on euphonium alongside Morgan Griffiths, continuing a partnership which had developed at the Black Dyke Mills Band. Joe studied at Huddersfield University and received tuition from Phillip McCann for two years before making the move to tenor horn in his final year. He then enjoyed a 5 year stint with the Yorkshire Imperial Band. Following this Joe played with the Freckelton Band in the Lancashire. Now he has relocated back to Yorkshire he is looking forward to following in his father’s footsteps with an equally successful time at Hammonds.
Both new signings appeared with Hammonds at the band's annual concert series at The Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough, earlier this year. A band spokesperson said “We are thrilled to have a Tim and Joe join the ranks for what promises to be a very exciting year for Hammonds. It’s especially nice to see Joe reconnect with his banding roots now he’s back in Yorkshire. We would like to thank Matt Brown (trombone), and Ellie Watson (horn) for their dedication and contribution. We wish them well for the future.”
