Hammonds Band keep up winning ways
The Hammonds Band won their second shield of the contesting season by retaining their title at the Hebden Bridge Hymn and March Contest.
Directed by Morgan Griffiths, Hammonds started with Karl Jenkins wonderful arrangement of the Hymn ‘Abide with Me’ which featured soloists Phillip Varley on cornet and Zoe Wright on tenor horn. This won the prize for best hymn on the day.
They then moved on to play George Allen’s famous contest march ‘Knight Templar’ which led to the band winning the overall prize.
The Hammonds Band will be looking to make it a hat-trick of wins in 2018 at the Brighouse March contest on Sunday 1st July.
