We Say Goodbye to Two Great Bandsmen
The nature of banding means that from time to time players leave a band due to a variety of reasons. Often these revolve around work and moving away from a band. This summer we lost to loyal members of the band for such a reason.
At the end of May Ben Coulson left the band after being with us for three years. Ben joined not long after he moved to Huddersfield to study music at the university. In his time with the band Ben has played on both the front and back row of the cornet section helping the band move from strength to strength over the last three years. As you can see from the attractive shirt in the photo to the right, Ben was the obvious choice to be in charge of looking after the band's uniforms for the last eighteen months!! Ben leaves the band to undertake a position at a residential school in the south of England.
As you may have read in this article, the band welcomed a new member to the bass section in July. This was due to Ryan O'Grady leaving after he also completed his studies at Huddersfield University. Like Ben, Ryan has been with the band for most of the time he has been working towards his degree after moving to the area from his native Liverpool. Upon the completion of his studies Ryan could not really commute to the band after his studies were over as his next move is to China, where he will be spending the next year teaching English to students in a yet to be decided area of of the country. Having looked at the travel time we just could not make the journey work.
All members of the band would like to take this public opportunity to thank both Ben and Ryan for all of their hard work with the band and wish them every success for the future.
