British Open Qualifiers Hammonds Saltaire Band and Guests Neo Brass Joint Concert
Neo Brass (a British style brass band) founded by Hiroe Tada, formerly a member of Hammonds Saltaire Band, will be making their first visit to the UK just in time for the famous Whit Friday March Contests. Many of the band members took part in the Hamamatsu Brass Band Summer School which was led by conductor Morgan Griffiths last summer.
Members of the band are from all over the Japan. The band's first concert was 2012 in Sapporo (North Japan) in which Iain Culross was guest soloist and the second in 2013 took place in Tokyo in which Natsumi Inaba was guest soloist. You can listen to Neo Brass on YouTube’s "BRASS NEO" channel.
To conclude their short trip, a joint concert will take place on Saturday 14th June at Rochdale Salvation Army. Hammonds Saltaire has enjoyed much acclimation from their current CD, “Pursuing Horizons”, some of which will be played on the night. The concert will also include pieces written by Phillip Sparke, Paul Lovett Cooper and joint pieces that include the fitting Peter Graham’s Procession to the Minster. Fitting because of Hammond’s success at this year’s Grand Shield where they grabbed a well-deserved promotion to the British Open off their performance of another Peter Graham piece, “On Alderley Edge”.
