Official opening of a new Bandstand in Robert’s Park, Saltaire
Hammonds Saltaire Band was proud and privileged to play an open air concert in Robert’s Park, Saltaire to celebrate the opening of a new Bandstand on a gloriously sunny afternoon yesterday (Saturday 22 May 2010) This concert featured a new composition of an opening fanfare called ‘A Vision of Saltaire’ by the Bradford born composer Jonathan Brigg who introduced and conducted the piece before handing over the baton to Morgan Griffiths the Band’s Musical Director. Hammonds Saltaire Band then went on to give a thrilling and varied concert to an audience of several hundred people who enjoyed both music and sunshine at a splendid event.
Saltaire is the Band’s spiritual home having been founded there at Salt’s Mill in 1855 by the philanthropic mill-owner Sir Titus Salt whose statue towers over the new bandstand.
The new Bandstand has been built as part of a £4.5m refurbishment of Robert’s Park and is now set to feature a range of musical talent each weekend throughout the summer months.
